Project Description

Jeff called because his wife could not stand looking at their poorly painted and peeling front gate every time she approached it. Jeff had promised he would get this taken care of before their anniversary, but that important celebration was now only days away. He was in a hurry, but he was not satisfied with the quotes he had received to repaint the gates. He said no one planned to entirely strip the old paint off, that it was too much work, and they would scrape what they could and paint over it.

When I (Keith, the owner of the company) inspected the gates in person, it was readily apparent what had happened. A previous painter used latex paint on metal without a metal primer, and it was now all peeling off because the paint had not bonded due to no metal primer being used. I shared this bad news with Jeff, yet he appreciated the honest and direct analysis. I told him the only way to do this correctly, so it would not continue to peel, would be to strip the gates back to raw metal and start over.

Jeff said he trusted my analysis and the solution I provided. Our Production Manager was able to switch a few things in order to schedule Jeff’s gates ASAP so we could surprise his wife for their anniversary (not to mention propping Jeff up as potential husband of the year!).

I hired Charlie Woodward and his Soda Blasting company to strip all that old paint off. And he did an amazing job.

Then one of our tech teams applied two coats of oil-based DTM by an HVLP sprayer to all metal surfaces of the gates, the motor housings and arms, and even the street sign pole at the front of the property to thoroughly transform those gates back to their original luster and beauty.
